Creative Expressions In Therapy
Although many people think of talking and listening when they think about therapy, there can be so much more to this unique process. My clients often find that tapping into their creative selves allows them to cope with their difficulties and feel more empowered.
Dreamwork
Your dreams can reveal valuable information about your desires, needs, and struggles. Dreamwork is an umbrella term that refers to exploring and diving into your dreams. With this intervention, I don’t assume an expert stance. Instead, we’ll both get curious and make reflections together. I may also encourage you to draw your dreams.
Imagery
Imagery (also known as visualization) encourages you to focus on specific images that promote a specific kind of emotion. This also helps activate the mind-body connection, which can be an important part of your healing process.
Creative writing
Many people find that it’s easier to express themselves through writing than talking. In therapy, we may incorporate journaling, poetry, and other written exercises intended to help you develop a deeper sense of introspection.
Narrative therapy
Narrative therapy is a type of therapy that facilitates you to rewrite your own life narrative. In this work, we’ll deconstruct your stories to gain more clarity, and we’ll work through patterns that feel stuck or unhelpful. Narrative therapy can be especially helpful for women with histories of trauma, attachment wounds, grief, or depression.
